It was a Sunday afternoon, the 7th day of my already too long work week, when I had an epiphany that changed my design practice permanently.
It was the day I discovered my ideal client, buried among way too many other clients that I'd simply said "yes" to when I should have said "I'm not available (because we're not a fit.)"
6 months later I took my first vacation in 5 years, a 3 week trip to India to Mumbai, Delhi, Agra, Varnasi and more. We stayed in Oberoi 5-star hotels in every city, it was extraordinary and unforgettable. (Have you been?)
It was 12 months later that I looked back on my year and realized that I'd effectively reduced my client load to exclusively ideal clients, wrapping up or referring out everyone else.
And, my work load had gone from 70+ hours a week to a livable 40, while MY REVENUES STILL DOUBLED.
Until then I'd suffered the delusion that in order to earn more, I had to work more and harder. (Does that sound familiar?)
BULLS*** that was a limiting belief and an illusion.
