So I discovered an UGLY TRUTH about myself in the last week.
I'm sharing this with you because you may be doing the very same thing and be as unaware of it as I was.
It started 15 days ago when the apartments that I live in, notified me that in order to get the best rate on renewal I had to decide in 15 days.
If I didn't, and went month to month, the penalty in fees would be $1K/month additional (not a typo.)
Clearly that seemed foolhardy financially.
BUT (and it's a big one) rather than approach the management with what would keep me here (such a simple solution), I decided to load residence hunting on top of an already TOTALLY FULL SCHEDULE!
2021 is growing into a fantastic year, I've got a full house of private coaching clients and just launched the BETA of Ignite Your Success, group coaching (get in touch if you want to know more.)
My plate is deliciously full and I really didn't have room for unnecessary apartment hunting.
I did it anyway...
And every place I saw (over 18 options scattered from downtown Phoenix high-rises to even further out than I am now) had something not quite right.
In fact, I kind of appreciated where I am more than ever, even with it's drawbacks.
Then as I thought I'd found my ideal place and was accepted, I realized I really didn't have the time or energy to move.
So why did I waste all of that time?
I realized that I had a lot to focus on, not just in front of me, but future planning and I WAS DODGING IT.
My very own MASSIVE SELF SABOTAGE kicked in, in the form of urgent apartment hunting.
UGH, THE TIME I WASTED! And it would never have been house hunting, the market is for sellers now, not buyers and I don't know which part of town I want to live in.
Yikes, what a frickin' hairy time suck. And time is our greatest non-renewable resource.
What a lesson I've learned. Next time I'm tempted by a distraction, I'll ask myself "WHAT ARE YOU AVOIDING?"
"WHAT IS IT GOING TO COST YOU TO LOSE FOCUS RIGHT NOW?"
Those are ouchy questions and I hate that I had to learn this, perhaps this will help you with the demon of SELF SABOTAGE.
I renewed my lease for another 13 months, they are giving me new carpet in two rooms, got my windows cleaned and now having fun adding bells and whistles since I'm staying...
LESSON LEARNED...
HUGE HUGS,
Melissa
PS. If you want to know what bells and whistles means, understand that I treat an apartment like I would a private home. I'll be adding long overdue drapery panels (the blinds are here), thinking of moving from a sofa to a sectional, adding a beaded curtain to one doorway, and replacing the island pendants with something way more interesting...oh and a new rug in the living room, with metallic threads I love my bling.
