Hey ,
It's been a bit of a rocky week. I'm going to have to let my beloved Yang go by the end of the month. In case you didn't know, Yang is one of my two petite cats. She and her sister (Yin, of course) are both 14 years old and Yang became crippled a couple of years suddenly with a spinal issue. She has been perfectly healthy in every other regard but she is now in chronic pain and that is not okay. Evidently she fares much better when I'm home because she gets a lot of attention and my energy alleviates her discomfort. Unfortunately I was out of town last week for four days and again this weekend I'm heading to #NAMS7 and she reacts badly in my absence (yes, she does have a devoted pet sitter!)
The vet shared that I am in the top 1% of pet owners and many others would have put her down when she got crippled. Never considered it, her presence is huge for me and she has incredible personality. But I promised I'd never keep her alive and in pain just to keep her here, so I am going to have to make the hard decision by month end. I'm hoping I can find a way to say goodbye. (Just writing this brings up watery eyes, she is currently napping in the sun on her favorite chair, I put her in her chair, aka throne, every morning.)
Yang is actually a lot like the stories I'm sharing in this week's post. She beat the odds. She gets around on her own, the only limitation being she can't climb. She will even stand if I help her and likes to stretch her legs. Her belief in herself as a feline and a huntress (she was formerly my top mole catcher in the mountains) trumped any disability or opinion that she was less than she wanted to be. So what is standing in your way? What opinion, belonging to another, have you allowed to become an obstacle to achievement? READ MORE ...
DID YOU KNOW that Frank Sinatra was told he couldn't carry a tune? I'm sure you remember the story that Fred Astaire couldn't dance! (If you don't recognize these greats, please look them up, they are icons well beyond their age.) What is it you've always wanted to do, but been told by others "you can't do that," "it won't work." Get over them and get on with your success.
