Hey ,
I was in the middle listening to and watching a webinar training when the phone rang. I paused the webinar and answered politely. A woman, with what honestly sounded like marbles in her mouth, rattled my business name and a 5 year old address off at me.
I actually had to ask her what she needed from me and who she was. It turns out it was Dun & Bradstreet since I'm listed, but I was so taken aback by her abrupt manner and inability to speak clearly, not to mention her utter failure to identify herself.
She mentioned at the start the call was being recorded, I sure hope so because she needs TRAINING! Yikes. READ MORE ...
This isn't the first time, of course. I can usually spot a solicitation a mile away, this threw me because it wasn't one, but I couldn't figure out what she wanted. I know I'm not alone and that these kind of interruptions are like assaults on your day. So I've written up a short article on business phone etiquette and professionalism.
