Okay, I am out on a huge limb here, hoping you can help.
This week I kept hearing Sandy stories. The first was Tuesday when residences in Rockaway were saying they felt like they'd already been forgotten and they are still without power, homes devastated, and in need of help desperately.
That FORGOTTEN bit really hit home for me. Can you imagine how horrific it would be to lose your home to a storm at any time of the year but with winter fast descending, these folks are in trouble?
I wanted to do something immediately and BIG!

The next story was Friday and it was how the relief folks have been fielding all kinds of donations of clothing, food, blankets and more. The trouble is that they have to sort through it all and a lot of it isn't what they specifically need. They said that it is far better to provide money so that funds can be used to supply what is needed most.

So I thought that tapping my community, online and offline to provide HURRICANE HOLIDAY HELP would be a start. You see the victims of Sandy who have lost their homes, suffered incredible damage and more really aren't going to have a holiday season, heck they aren't going to get much of a Thanksgiving either beyond what is served at the relief centers.
I want to ensure that as many singles and families as possible get to experience the reason for the season (GIVING) even when it means giving less to my friends and family. Will you help me?

Are you with me?? I set up a fundraising portal here and invite you to contribute. I have feet on the ground up North through a couple of organizations who can deliver holiday cheer directly to the victims. While I know it might be tempting to clean out a closet, let's forgo that right now and instead I'm asking you to contribute funds.
We are going to put together Hurricane Holiday Relief Kits to be delivered directly to the victims. There is no money here for overhead or administration, every dollar donated will go directly to goods for the victims (and we are getting input directly from a network of victims who are digging out.)
This matters to me, and I hope it matters to you.
