Melissa's Musings: I had to say NO
Hey ,
Okay, I've got to say NO. This week has been a week of NO.
No, to a client who was not a fit.
No, to a provider who was not delivering.
No, to a proposal that didn't value my real talent.
No, to a stylist who wasn't listening to me.
No, to a man I'm not interested in and kept chasing me.
No, to the trial of my newsletter format change (too damn long!)
No, to a mastermind coach who had her own plan of where I belonged and it didn't fit where I want to go.
SO I CAN SAY ...
YES, to a business and life I love.
You see, I fell into that trap of doing things because I could, instead of because I wanted to. I lost site of the biggest reason I am in business for myself is ME!
Now, you might fall into that school of thought that says when you own the business, the business owns you and your clients and customers are your boss. Not on your life! I teach my clients how I work and if that doesn't work for them, then we aren't a fit. I call the shots in my business and you deserve to in your business too.
I own my business and it must work for me or I have to take drastic measures as I had to this week. Sometimes you must say NO, so you can say YES to the more important things in your life ... YOU, your friends, your family, your peace of mind, your happy place.
As I've always said, SUCCESS is a business that fuels and supports the whole of your life and doesn't swallow you whole. I got caught in the undertow of overwhelm (easy to do with a constant barrage of input from online and offline sources.) I'm now out of the water and turning my own tide before I get back in (goodness have I mixed my metaphors again?)
Oh, and this would be a great video, but my logitech has decided to take a vacation to the land of inoperable and I don't love my built-in camera (and yes, I am vain enough that it matters!) So forgive the text.
Now, GO HAVE SOME FUN this weekend. Get out with family, go hang with your friends. Don't lose your weekend to work. You deserve better. I'm in Highlands visiting friends.
