7 Simple Strategies for Getting Out of Debt (NOW!)

Published: Sat, 10/25/14

It was a heart wrenching story, Jeannie wanted to follow her BIG
DREAM. Her current circumstances were dire.

She had no place to live beyond relying on the goodwill of friends
(which wasn't working out very well).

She had only social security income from her late husband.

And yet Jeannie's focus was getting her website and blog up and
running and online classes launched. (Can you see a problem here?)

She had no plan for immediate income in the door and yet had no
secure place to live and was being chased by creditors. Online
business takes time to build, and classes take time to get students
and referrals. Jeannie didn't have time.

When you are in a financial corner (or worse) buried under a
mountain of bills every month, there are ways to solve it.

And yes, you can pursue your BIG DREAM, once you have covered the
basics. Without covering the basics, you are acting irresponsibly
and relying on the goodwill of family, friends and even strangers,
not reliable.

First things first, make sure you have a safe place to live, even
if it's a room someplace. And if it means you need to wait tables
or clean houses (I've done that) to get back on your feet, do it.

If you think I'm kidding or don't know what I'm talking about ...
when I was $70K in debt starting my first business, I took a
$10/hour job weekends supervising a catering kitchen and running
the hot and sweaty dish machine. I wasn't proud of it, but it was
about doing whatever was necessary to take care of basic expenses
(and keep up with monthly credit card bills) while I built my
business and moved forward in my BIG DREAM... READ MORE

I also went to a couple of the local universities and asked if I
could teach in their evening program, they said yes, that took over
my nights. Over the course of a year, teaching 3-5 classes at any
given time, this grossed me $10-12K. This gave me just enough
breathing room to invest 12+ hours a day in my fledgling business.
It was 90 days before my first client showed up. I kept the
catering job for 18 months, and the teaching for a decade (it
turned out to be marvelous marketing for my business.)

While you may not like all the strategies I'm giving you, you'll
find one or two that will work for you and get you out from under
the burden of debt you may be in. READ MORE.

#1 Get a Job
This is not the time to be picky. You need income (or extra income)
coming in. Yes, I know you want to follow your bliss, and it will
make you money, one day, that day may be very far off. In the
meantime, you need to be smart, resourceful and take care of basic
needs like shelter, food, and clothing and paying off any debts you
have accumulated. Do what it takes to get out from under your debt
strain.

#2 Reduce ...

If you aren't in debt, then share this article with a friend,
family member, or even colleague who is. Debt will rob the life out
of you, suck the energy from you day, and create constant worry.
You don't have to be in it, neither do they.

Hugs,
