what do you stand for?

Thursday night this week I attended an
Over40 Networking event. (OMG, you didn't
know I was over 40! That's so sweet of you,
yeah right, lol)
I had a great time, met some very cool
professionals and made some valued connections.
As I headed home at the end of the evening,
a friend stopped me and said "you've been
in the same place all night."
She was right, I'd pretty much stood, almost
rooted, to the same spot all night. People
simply kept walking up and joining the
conversation I was having; or a colleague
would introduce me to someone they knew.
It was a fascinating experience and reminded
me of the value of taking a stand, in this
case literally!
When you are willing to take a stand for what
you believe in, everything that you don't
believe in will fall away.
The moment you are willing to put a stake
in the ground, you'll find your tribe,
your community, and your clients joining you.
(Kind of like they did me on Thursday night.)
They will recognize you taking a stand not
just for yourself but for them as well.
What I noticed was that each of the people
I met shared me with other people because they
could see, hear, and feel my enthusiasm and
unshakeable belief that you are your own
ultimate competitive advantage.
I look first always for how I can connect
people to not only their own greatness but
to the greatness of others to create synergy
and partnership. After all, together we
really do all go farther faster.
