I didn't get picked, OUCH and YAHOO!
Published: Mon, 02/09/15
Recently, I applied for a program that
I thought I really wanted to get into.
I'd experienced a workshop by the mentor leading it
a couple of years ago, and I've seen him speak since
then. I love what he stands for, his style,
his content, and who he is.
I've been scripting my big dreams. (That's where you
write down in a daily journal from a place in the
future. I look back 30 days and 90 days and write
as if what I am intending, expecting, and wanting has
already happened, very powerful!)
The funny thing is that whenever I scripted,
I always hesitated to write down that I was in
this program, I thought I wanted.
There was some part of me that didn't feel
it was a fit.
I got an email saying something friendly like
"thank you for applying, great to catch up with you,
nothing personal, not a fit." And I was disappointed
but also relieved because I realized, he'd known
it wasn't a fit before I did and I was grateful
he'd paid attention to that.
Saying no to me, was a momentary OUCH,
AND it opens up possibilities in other avenues,
so YAHOO for me!
Imagine building your business around nothing but
clients that make you say YAHOO! Clients that have
you doing the happy dance when they come on board
in your business, and whom the first question you ask
in each conversation is "what are you celebrating?"
How freakin' cool would that be?
Let me answer for you, "totally rockin' awesome,
Melissa," how do I do that?

While I know you CAN work with everyone, I know
you'll run yourself into the ground doing that
or trying to do that.
You have a very specific talent, you have a unique
personality, what you offer isn't for just everyone.
It is for the right and best clients only.
And from both years of personal experience as well as
the success stories of clients, you will make more
money working with best fits and you'll love working
with them and they'll love working with you.
Imagine giving up the stress of serving bad client
fits. You are in charge of who you work with, you get
to pick who you want to deliver your talent to.
(If in doubt, come join me on the MASTER CLASS!)
The beautiful part about this is that you aren't
saying "no" to some, you are saying "yes" to the
right ones. I wasn't the right one for my mentor's
group. I might be in the future, or it may be that
I'm going in a different direction that just makes
us not the right fit. So glad he didn't just take
my money and say yes. UGH.
I've said no to potential clients that weren't
fits too, because when I didn't, I wound up having
to fire them later (painful and expensive.)
The clients you choose to work with today may not
be who you work with in a year or 5 years from now.
As you grow and change, your client criteria will too.
Ack, I'm doing it again, I'm giving away my brilliance
instead of saving it for class. Ah well, perhaps
you'll be intrigued enough to come and join us.

I'm stoked (a word I haven't used since college),
and want you to get out of your own way and onto
a path that moves you forward.
Will I "see" you on the call?
Hugs,
Melissa
PS. If you don't want better clients in your business
or more clients in your business, what do you want?
This is your invitation.
