ever feel like you are out of your league?

felt "out of my league."
That feeling that you aren't enough
really sucks and we all came by it
in our own way.
Mine was triggered by watching an
Oscar winning mother shred her
performances whenever she saw them
on TV. (If she wasn't good enough,
how on earth could I possibly hope to be?)
And then, growing up, she'd turn her
critical eye on me and ask why I hadn't
gotten an A, if I got a B+, why wasn't
I thinner (I was fat from age 14-33),
why had I done XYZ instead of PDQ?
You get the picture.
(My goal until age 30, 5 years after
she passed away, was to make her proud.
Then I got smart, and started making
me proud instead!)
Even today when I'm hired for
a speaking gig, I have that moment
of "Who me? What makes me qualified?"
What I've learned is that the best remedy
for the doubt and confidence crisis is
the knowledge that everyone else (almost
everyone else anyway) feels the same way
and are putting on their poker face too.
(I've had lots of conversations with
lots of speakers, experts, clients,
and audience members about this.)
I've also found that doing a bit
of research about my audience, just as
I research my prospects and clients,
always shows me where I can be of greatest
help and service because it shows me what
they either don't know or know and
aren't implementing.
Next time you are struggling with the
idea that you aren't good enough, don't
know enough or aren't qualified, do the
research and trust that you were asked
for a very good reason.
You are absolutely the right person and
more than enough for the job, the gig,
the project, the event, the partnership,
or whatever other format is at hand.
Put away your doubts,
move forward with confidence.
Hugs,
Melissa
PS. I've made an EXECUTIVE DECISION
to do away with the ezine format. It is
just too much information at one time.
I save the ones I'm subscribed to,
to read later. You guessed it, later
never happens. So clearing up my own
clutter on this, going forward I'm
sticking to smaller bites of information.
