are you in charge of your business?

Published: Tue, 04/28/15

I'm asking because I had a community
member threaten me last week.

Yep, and they are likely even
reading this email right now.

I had indicated that I wasn't going
to have a replay of my webinar Saturday.

And they threatened to "tell everyone."
I'm not entirely sure what that would
even look like.

Interestingly, in doing a bit
of research, this person is entirely
anonymous in their emails and identity.

I'm sure I could dig further, but it's
not a good use of my time.

NEWS FLASH! You are in charge
of your business.

Not your community, not a single
reader, not a disgruntled emailer,
not a Facebook friend or fan, not
a Twitter follower, not a G+ pal,
not a youtube viewer,
but YOU, YOU, YOU!

Whether or not you do a replay,
an encore, or even deliver great
content via a webinar or teleseminar
is entirely up to YOU!

Years ago I asked my mentor,
Adam Urbanski, if I should reduce
the number of emails I send. I told
him I'd done a survey of my community.

Adam said, "It's not up to them,
it's up to you."

He's right. For ever negative
comment I get, there are
10 positive ones.

For every person who demands
a replay, there are others who say
"no thanks, I'll catch it live
or not at all."

BE VERY CAREFUL, it is easy
to fall into the trap of letting
the noise around you run your
business, and I promise if you
listen it will run you right
into the ground.

A friend shared a wonderful
expression with me recently around
this. "They don't get a voice,
if they aren't in the game."

What she meant is that unless
someone is on your team, knows
your business, or is a mentor,
they don't get a voice about
how you do things.

The same applies to anonymity,
if you want to be heard, you have
to be willing to be identified.

It is easy to hide behind a made up
email, forgetting to ever sign your
messages, and yet sharing only
negative comments, threats,
or demands.

It is not so easy to step up,
claim your voice, have a point
of view, and be willing to be
seen and heard.

It is not so easy but essential to
living and working in alignment,
with authenticity, and transparency.

I digress ... on the topic of replays,
sometimes I have them, other times
I do an encore.

I am adamantly opposed to being
part of the "desktop help" all of us
have hoarding our digital space.
If you can't make it live, it isn't
a priority.

As I write this, I think I probably
have 100+ replays stashed on my
computer. I'm never going to have
time to watch them, and there is
new content out daily to replace
the old stuff.

Run your own business the way
that works best for you.
Those that like you, get it,
and benefit will stick around.

Those that don't get it, are
annoyed by it, and disagree
will ultimately leave.

You are in charge!

Hugs,
Melissa
