are you being human or too perfect?

They say there's a light at the end of the tunnel, but sometimes it just feels like an oncoming train.

That's how I felt when I got on the phone with my mentor 6 years ago. My business, for some unknown reason, had come to a screeching halt.

Not matter what I sent in email, no matter what I tweeted or posted on Facebook, it was crickets.

No one was responding to my invitations for strategy sessions.

My mentor took a look at a couple of my emails and delivered the hard painful truth, "Melissa, you know your stuff, you are very professional, and you are coming across as a clever marketer instead of as the real, feeling woman and coach that you are."

Yikes! I felt tears well up as I knew he was right and I also thought that I didn't know how to be any other way.

Rather than argue this point, defend myself, or make excuses, I stayed silent (hard for me to do) and listened.

He said, "you've had a lot of experiences that your community wants to hear about, a lot of experiences that they can relate to. They need to see and feel your human side."

Whoa, this was getting wickedly uncomfortable and I knew he was right.

Are you game to get uncomfortable with me on the upcoming "From Now to WOW?"

It's the only thing that's going to blast you through your comfort zone (which, btw is not at all comfortable but feels stressful, dark, all about impossible, and cloaked in lack, ugh.)

So as uncomfortable as I was getting, I realized that I'd gotten lost in my quest for perfection and my desire to be professional before being personal.

Deep breath, I was going to have to let go of my quest and allow myself to become human and start sharing my less than perfect (buried in debt) past to fill up my future with prosperity and purpose.

Now, the mentors I work with are a bit like me, no holds barred, no kid gloves, and pushy, pushy, pushy because they know that playing footsy isn't going to get me moved forward. I knew it to.

He threw down a challenge. "I want to see you with 4 new clients in the next 30 days."

First, my mind went to "how on earth am I going to do that." Then I realized he wouldn't have given me the challenge if he didn't think I could totally knock it out of the ball park.

I rocketed forward with my confidence renewed by my mentor's faith in me (same thing happens with my clients because of my faith in them, I love that part!)

In the next 30 days, I had 12 conversations with potential clients and I brought 6 of them on board for 90 day Prosper by Design commitments. (Imagine what would have happened if I'd pushed myself a bit more and had twice as many conversations?)

I exceeded the challenge and got myself completely back on track. And I did it by bringing a lot more of myself, my stories, my experience, and my vulnerability (not my favorite word) to play in my business.

Are you tired of playing small? Are you maybe at a stuck or stalled place?

This is your invitation to join us for the LIVE Encore of "From Now to WOW: How to Add $30K in 60 Days to Your Business"

Your free online seat is waiting for you:

I want to show you the simple steps I took that made it happen and how you can do the same thing in your business. (Are you willing to let go of perfect and go for personal?)

I stopped wasting my time with social media. I didn't invest in any expensive PR. And, it wasn't about blogging (though I genuinely love to write so do that.)

Instead, it was about getting clear, getting real, and stepping into who I am instead of just what I do.

Let's do the same for you. You've got potential clients just waiting for you to show up, please don't leave them stranded.

Mega Hugs,
Melissa
