(Tool Time Tuesday) 5 favorite free image sources, to avoid fines

Published: Tue, 10/18/16

Well this is embarrassing but may save you a few hundred dollars.

Back 10 years ago, when we were in the Wild West of the internet and image sources weren't what they are today, occasionally, I'd pull images for my blog from Google.

A very bad idea.

Back then, copyright was fast and loose and many images appeared to be available free and clear.

Despite removing images from posts that I couldn't find the source on. I've still been fined 3 times.

While they start the fines in the thousands, because I claim "fair use," (blog is educational), they are reduced.

But, I've still had to fork over a couple of hundred or more for each fine. OUCH!

Don't take a chance, and you don't have to pay big bucks (or even any bucks) for awesome pics.

I just got hold of a handful of new sources, free and clear of any royalty issues and for commercial use.

Check each out and use the ones that have the best for your blog, website, and marketing.

Learn from my expensive mistake!

Hugs,
Melissa

PS. What's kind of fascinating is that the images I use have been sitting on my blog for several years, no problem. It is only in the last couple of years that attorneys are scooping up photographers and technology has evolved to allow image searches. I've never made any money from the images, they are strictly educational. Harruumph.
