Have you been as distracted as I've been about the national and global
disasters of the last 10 days?
Between Harvey in Houston and other parts of Texas being literally underwater (a friend living there compared it to a bathtub that someone forgot to pull the plug on...)
And Irma in the Caribbean, decimating St. Martin and Barbuda (the news said it resembled a nuclear bomb site...)
Now, Florida, where a dear friend
from college lives with her family and her Mum and Dad (who are like second parents to me...)
And the millions of other people displaced by the hurricanes, just today news of an 8.1 earthquake in Mexico...
It's hard for me to stay focused on business with climate driven chaos happening at every turn.
Instead of talking business today, I want to
invite you to think about how you can create a positive impact for the disaster victims.
Saying how sad it is, commiserating, and wringing hands doesn't help. ACTION is what matters, large and small.
***Contribute monetarily to a relief effort of any kind
***Give of your time to local or long distance relief efforts
***Provide goods, household, food, clothing, and more for those in
need
***Send positive energy, prayers, hope, and healing to those displaced
***Donate a percentage of the proceeds of a program, project, or package to relief efforts
***Keep the chatter on social media positive and helpful, stay out of gossip and guessing
***Change your profile or timeline images on social networks to announce your support (it does make a difference)
***Focus on how your talents, your compassion, and your expertise can help those in need
***Open your home to
friends, family or more who need a safe place to stay
Remember that the impacts of these crisis are LONG TERM, and it's easy to let it slip from top of mind when the urgency is past.
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, I worked with the Ruby Slipper project in Atlanta to furnish the home of a family from New Orleans.
They had 4 generations and 9
people in a two bedroom apartment. It took us a week with donations of goods and labor to make the transformation.
We had one day to trick it all out and create the big reveal. They cried and so did we, and it was because we made a difference.
It was incredibly rewarding and I wish I could do it for hundreds of victims of Houston, Florida, Barbuda, and anywhere else it's
needed.
Right now, my coaching clients are finding ways to be in service across the country, even those who are in the midst of the devastation themselves.
I'm honored to be a part of the Design Trade, our mission is to create home out of chaos and to realize productive workspace from catastrophe.
How will you make a difference? In service is
when we realize our greatest potential.
Sending you Hugs, Hope, and Healing with whatever you're going through and Inspiration and Perspiration to make the difference only you can.
Mega Hugs,
Melissa
PS. TAP REPLY and tell me where you are and what you're doing to make a difference AND if you need help!
