Last Friday, despite heavy flurries in Atlanta, I decided to stick to my plan
of heading up to Highlands, NC.
I have a very large, handsome, and heavy (wait for it, not what you're thinking...)
Walnut desk sitting stored in my basement that I want in Atlanta.
I had lined up a friend with a truck to meet me Saturday and a couple of local contractors to help load it.
Even
had coordinated help to unload it here and get it set up; it weighs a ton!
But I realized as I headed North that the snow, as stunning as it was, was getting heavier.
By the time I got to the Dillard Road, it was slippery as sin and non-snow experienced drivers were braking on hills.
WHAT?? WHAT?? Yes, you never, never, ever, ever brake UPHILL
in snow, your wheels will lock and you'll start to spin.
Took me three tries to make the Dillard Road, due to inexperienced snow drivers. My desk wasn't coming home with me.
What I did take home was a sense of AWE & WONDER!
I didn't have my laptop, only my phone and while I'll do FB and Instagram off that, I rarely do email or more on a
screen or keyboard that tiny.
I LET GO AND ENJOYED GETTING SNOWED IN.
I couldn't make it to my place, I had to abandon my car at the foot of the hill leading into the neighborhood.
(Yes, I did try and got about 4 feet until I was spinning and sliding so ditched the effort.)
Walking to the house
in knee deep snow was quite an adventure and mine were the only footsteps around.
It was beautiful, I had power, a fireplace, and gorgeous cabin to myself.
MINOR DETAIL, no food. I wasn't able to get to a grocery store so called some neighbors who weren't home but had a key I could find.
I foraged a can of Progresso soup, I had tea at my
place.
Without the tug of my laptop, I could relax and enjoy.
Okay so I did do some housekeeping, changed closet light bulbs, extra vacuuming, shifted furniture around, I'm a designer!
I also got to meet a neighbor equally stranded but his car was in his carport, we'd never met and we caught up over wine and fresh baked
cookies.
And it wouldn't have been a proper snow experience without making snow angels (you do know how to do that, don't you?)
I even attempted sledding on the garbage can lid with a beach towel inside, didn't work, I had to crabwalk down the hill. MOST UNDIGNIFIED!
Mostly, between sappy Hallmark romances and my favorite PBS shows, I enjoyed
time thinking.
When was the last time you slowed down long enough to THINK? To noodle, to dream, to imagine, to ponder, to wonder...
Seriously, when was it?
Tap reply and tell me and I'll tell you what I came up with while SNOWED IN... because changes are coming!
WARM
HUGS,
Melissa
PS. This affects you and me in 2018 in a big, delicious, wonderful way!
