One of the many mentors I've had over the years told me that I shouldn't include testimonials on my website because, of course, I'd never include anything that wasn't fully complimentary. While this didn't make a lot of sense to me, since he was a five time NY Times bestselling author and a speaker with a 20+ year track record of outrageous success, I listened and took them down.
A few months later, I decided he was wrong and put them back up. Shortly thereafter, he released a new version of his website, littered with testimonials. He realized the power of social proof and now was leveraging it. I'd been leveraging it all along but he was old school and didn't see it. I never said anything to him about it, but realized that there have been many times in my life when taking my own counsel would have been wiser than soliciting the advice of
others.
Often, you know exactly what is best for you, but you doubt yourself because you don't think you have enough experience. Banish the doubt, invite trust and move forward with the knowledge that no one knows better than you what is right for you. Stop second guessing yourself and move forward with the confidence that you are taking the right steps, you can always make a new choice at another time. Eliciting advice from others, even experts, can stall you out. You know
best, go do what you know has to be done.
